The Soldier Thread’s Matador video

This video was shot and edited around the same time as our video for Sing [watch below]. Both were done by our good friend (and general boy genius), director Jeff Ray. This guy is stupid good behind the camera.

One camera shoots done with only the band, director and one assistant. Incredible work, if you ask me. The Soldier Thread are great friends of ours and write some of the most intelligently catchy songs you’ll ever hear. Love this band.

Mumford and Sons: part of Railroad Revival Tour 2011

What a great concept: music and musicians traveling through the great American landscape on a train. Kind of like the circus rolling in to town. And Mumford and Sons is one of my absolute favorite bands these days. I saw them for the first time on a whim with about 60 other people at the Mercury Lounge in New York during the CMJ Music Festival two years ago. Absolute brilliance.

Manchester Orchestra’s album Simple Math

We were on tour one Winter and it seemed like everywhere we went, we were either playing the day before or the day after Machester Orchestra at the same venues. Vans and trailers passing in the night. Best part about them, too: they are neither from Manchester nor are an orchestra. They are actually a five-piece band from outside Atlanta, Georgia.

Video for the The Damnwells song The Great Unknown

I’ve been a fan of The Damwells for about as long as they’ve been a band. This is a ridiculously simple yet captivating video for the song The Great Unknown, the first tune they released off of their most recent record, No One Listens To The Band Anymore. Man, Alex Dezen sure knows how to write a good song.

I originally caught wind of these photos on amazing artist/designer Scott Hansen’s blog. These photos, taken by Danny Lyon in Brooklyn in 1974, have such a gritty, yet nostalgic feel to them. As a native New Yorker, any New York history pieces leave me curious. Great finds. [Musician Outasight is writing guest posts for Lost at E Minor] Read more

The uber-hip French producer M83 has compiled a Secret Playlist for us in which he props Brian Eno, Julee Cruise, and Tears For Fears’ Head Over Heels: ‘This song was the biggest influence for my new album. Our track, Kim and Jesse, takes a lot of inspiration from 80s bands like Tears for Fears. This is one of my favourites’. Read the rest of M83′s Secret Playlist.

Only the French can get away with the sort of effete, gothic electropop that Position Parallele make. It’s hard to tell if the duo’s deadpan is supposed to be funny or not, but it’s pretty hard not to pull some angular, jerky dance moves when listening to their New Order-ish tunes.

Browsing through the new Minn0wbather Esty store look book will have you counting down the days until summer, if you’re an Aussie. Every hand-made swimsuit by Toronto-based designers Karen Donaldson and Vanessa Warrack exudes a vintage feel: boasting high waists and alluring floral prints to really stand out next time you hit the sand.
