Sequined art by Kristin Morland

Men, Voice, War: song by Brian Bonz and The Major Crimes

Any song that starts off with the intro, ‘This is a song about the first time I went to a strip club with my drug dealer’, you know is at least going to be interesting. Turns out, it’s a pretty killer song. He’s a beekeeper, he knows how to keep ‘dem bees.

Glitter and Rust greeting cards by Kendra Marable

Kendra Marable is an old friend who’s been one of my favorite artists for a long time. She actually did a record cover for me once. She’s been doing a line of greeting cards called Glitter and Rust which are fantastic. Personally, I am a lover of altars and I think she has a lot to do with that.

Old Canes

I’ve heard Old Canes described as ‘fuzz folk’, which is pretty apt. They make me happy in a Neutral Milk Hotel sort of way. They are working on a series of 7″s, all about shape shifters, which I’m super excited about.

We spoke to Dopepope about his latest Metal Man Project: ‘In the fifth grade, I drew a comic called Metal Man about a humanoid robot that went crazy and pulled knives on people. It’s the most ridiculous thing ever. I was a kid! Anyway, I found the artwork and simply traced the head and the logo exactly as I had them and fell in love with the iconic shapes they’ve created’. Bay Area duo The Human Quena Orchestra sounds like a skyscraper falling in slow motion with their scraping, crashing, screeching drone pounded out of guitars, samplers, and circuit-bent electronics. Listen to their track Progress below.

While I feel I am not alone in breathing a sigh of relief over this season’s purging of fluoro, in retrospect there was a lot to be learned from the experience: don’t wear all fluoro, or don’t wear fluoro at all. And we slowly trudged back to black, which, despite what other colors may think, will always be the new black. Read more
