Sushi Ring to raise to money for aid for Japan

In times of trouble, we must all look to the silver lining. Despite the unprecedented loss suffered by Japan at the hand of its recent earthquake and tsunami, the country and its people continue to ban together to forge ahead. And the world follows its example.

Italian artist, FIMO, has designed a Sushi Ring with 30 percent of proceeds going to Japanese Relief. Handmade with ceramic and an nonallergic steel ring, the delicious piece of my favorite food, is a terrific way to help in Sushi-chic style.

Melbourne-based artist Thomas Pavitte uses basic techniques to create complex artworks. For his take on Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, he carefully arranged and numbered 6,239 dots and then spent the next nine hours connecting them. The result is not only the (unofficial) world record for the most complex dot-to-dot drawing, but also happens to be a seriously cool piece of art. Read more

Whoever said Goth is dead failed to inform these people. This blog is vivid proof that Goth is very much alive — I mean, undead — and kicking, in style. So if sinister sisters and brooding brothers tickle your fancy, cast a glance at this virtual necropolis. Don’t forget your parasol. I hear they’re praying for rain. Read more

The sound New Zealand band The Brunettes make is Hallmark card pop — naïve sincerity mixed with low-fi, casual kitsch. Says chief songwriter, Jonathan Bree: ‘You’ll find us somewhere between US punk and just before classic 60s romps’. And so we will.
