Yarn Bombing: foot warmers for street signs

Yarn seems to have become the hippest material in street art lately. Recently we reported on Juliana Santacruz Herrera, who fills potholes with yarn in a most decorative way. Now check out the works of Strickbombe (‘Yarn bombing’), an anonymous woman knitting in Saarbrücken, Germany.

What she does is quite funny. She decorates all kinds of items in and around Saarbrücken with her knittings. You can see her little woolen socks, cuffs, signs and other shenanigans all over town. Thumbs up for making Saarbrücken such a fun place to live in, and keep ‘em coming, please, whoever you are.

Portraits made from string by Pamela Campagna

Pamela Campagna is a graphic designer from Italy who has come up with a series of portraits that is truly innovative. Mainly consisting of threads and nails, her works are a symbolic expression for the networks she has created with the motifs they display – mainly of people she knows, like friends and family. Brilliant one line drawing series by Eemz

Eemz is an illustrator and mixed-media artist from Cairo. She has recently come up with a one line drawing series that I find quite adorable. Lots of her motifs look like minimalist doodling interpretations of characters from the Arabian Nights or the Pharaonic period. I would really love to see these turned into t shirt motifs or printed on postcards, so I can send them around to my friends. Read more

Melbourne designer Lilian Darmono and her co-director partner Mungo Horey were asked by Red Bee to come up with some ideas for the new children’s channel, ABC 3 Australia. Their idea for it ‘was centered around a magical world, in the shape of a giant 3, where all kinds of amazing things take place and unfold’. [See more Australian art and design at The Colour]

The duo of Brendan Monroe and Evah Fan are one of those creative, powerhouse couples. Though two entirely individual artists, the influence they exert upon one another is subtle yet undeniable. Both create the kind of art that that makes you giddy with pleasure, while the lack of pretension puts you completely at ease. You get the undeniable sense that these are two people who simply live and breathe creativity and love every moment of it. Two amazing artists with a wholly individual take on life and the world around them. I had the pleasure to grill them both. Read more

Lush was one of the best bands to come out of the indie-tastic early ’90s. They set the standard for shoegazey, ethereal pop from the British Isles, and they were about to break big with their 1996 album Lovelife before drummer Chris Acland hanged himself in his parents’ home. The band is a bit of a forgotten gem at this point. Let’s cross our fingers for a reunion.
