The word ‘original’ is frequently tossed around and incorrectly applied to stale, done-to-death creations, which are anything but. Thankfully, artists like Mexican-born Hugo Lugo can paint a truly innovative concept, and give the word meaning again. I’m gobsmacked by the simplicity and brilliance of his strangely surreal artwork.

It’s great work but not original, craft blogs have been full of this kind of work for years done by multiple artists around the world, and in recent years it’s become very common for people to copy the style…not that I’m complaining, I always love these kinds of photo’s.

We spoke with Brooklyn-based illustrator Jordan Awan a few weeks back. This is the second part of that interview. How did you find your style? ‘Though “style” can be a slippery word to use, I can pinpoint one particular instance that led to a major turning point in the way I work. It was a comment made several years ago by my good friend Eric Wrenn, who told me that I was drawing too quickly and needed to physically slow my hand down’. Read more

Somehow, meme-based blogs never lose their charm. Maybe because they’re just so stupid. The FAIL blog is simply a catalog of the funniest FAIL images on the web.

Only the French can get away with the sort of effete, gothic electropop that Position Parallele make. It’s hard to tell if the duo’s deadpan is supposed to be funny or not, but it’s pretty hard not to pull some angular, jerky dance moves when listening to their New Order-ish tunes.

Sometime in 2010, the folks behind Dirty Dishes had the slightly silly idea of using cheeky vintage photos and putting them on dinner plates. After doing lots of research, talking to lots of people, and receiving loads of positive feedback, they wondered if this idea was so silly after all. And thus Dirty Dishes was born. Read more
