Olivo Barbieri
Italian photographer Olivo Barbieri is recognized as the founder of the innovative technique of creating, as Wikipedia notes, ‘miniature still photography from actual landscapes by simulating shallow depth of field via the use of tilt-shift lens photography’.
He often takes his photos from a helicopter, suspended between 300 and 500 feet above the ground, which helps create the effect of condensing a large scale environment into a compact, artful scene.
