Justice Of The Unicorns
I’ve known Russ Dungan for a long time, and couldn’t wait to get my press copy of his band Justice Of The Unicorns’ new yet-to-be-released album, Animals Will Be Stoned (official release May 17). Psychedelic songs about rednecks and fantasy worlds, country and city life alike.
Russ sings simple songs with such sincerity and tenderness that it’s hard not to find the humor in his vocals without a few listens. One can’t help but laugh and cry at the same time when hearing lines like ‘It’s a 4×4 parade again/They’re drinkin’ from the river that they all pissed in’. Not to mention the epic album cover, created by legendary sci-fi artist Boris Vallejo. Well done, Russ and friends — an epic masterpiece of simple, melodic expression and a landmark of (perhaps) sincere beauty.
