Amazing urban decay photos by Brian Roach

Photographer Brian Roach’s intricate and haunting HDR pieces capture the surprisingly beautiful but decaying urban landscape. Each piece (up to fifteen feet in size) is created from multiple exposures, which adds to the surreal quality of this hidden world. From a broken chair to a toy left behind, the people that moved in these once grand spaces are still a mystery.

Surfing at Rhossili Beach in Wales

Most don’t think of Wales as a surfing destination. In fact, most people don’t think of Wales at all. But the dramatic cliffs and breathtaking scenery that surround Rhossili Beach create a ‘surf sweet spot’, making this travel destination alluring to both surfers and nature-lovers alike. Read more

Traktor: new single from Swedish folk-pop group Francis

This Swedish folk-pop group has released an EP, This Must Be Blood, featuring Traktor [above], among other gems. They’ve been on the circuit since 2006, with their live performance being described on Last.fm as ‘an unleashed Tasmanian Devil singing heartbreaking gospelsongs’. Fun.

When I visited the Big Apple, I had a Mexican man serenade me with his Spanish guitar at the station. But why didn’t I see any crazy folk when I rode New York’s subway? Seriously, this post by Do While is hilarious and exposes people embarrassingly sleeping, wearing daring attire, and carrying pet rats in their mouths! Read more

San Francisco-based illustrator Luke Feldman has just had his first children’s book published, Chaff n’ Skaffs: Mai and the Lost Moskivvy, a collaboration with writer Amanda Chin. The book artfully tells the story of Mai, ‘a young girl who never ventured too far from her home. When a lost mosquito interrupts Mai’s sleep, her friend Chaff suggests they escort Moskivvy back home to a faraway land. So begins a courageous girl’s voyage into a fantastic world’, all communicated beautifully through Feldman’s colorful, dynamic and considered illustrations. Read more

I caught Chicago’s Ga’an the other night at the Empty Bottle, and they blew me away. I’d never heard of these guys, but they make driving, gothic prog sounds like satanic Krautrock with guitar, bass, keyboards, drums, and the night I saw them, a female vocalist. There is no distinct frontman, but for me, drummer Seth Sher’s intense and precise playing was the highlight of the show.

Whoa, check out these sweet jackets by Natalie Rae Richardson that are embroidered to look like fur and feathers. Read more
