The Monster Show

Two Saturdays ago, McJAWN and Masthead Print Studio held the Monster Show, featuring artwork from over 40 different local artists, curated by illustrator and designer JP Flexner and Shawn Hileman. The evening was filled with all sorts of monstrosities: skeletons, griffins, naked ladies and things with many eyes. My personal highlight of the evening was the free booze and My Jello Americans treats.

I wonder what my generation of counter-culturalists has to offer in the way of personalities like Lou Beach, a former stunt pilot born in Germany to Polish parents, who made his name creating collage illustrations in the 70s and 80s for people such as Weird Al Yankovic and the Flying Burrito Brothers. The pan flutes can get a little much, but I still really like Mariee Sioux debut studio album Faces in the Rocks. I’m hoping she has a new album in the works. Listen to her cover of the Cure’s Love Song below.

Jeans are a science, a science based on the deep knowledge of denim, washes and patterns, according to Dr. Denim, who have certainly twisted and turned every single atom of all their jeans into perfection. Each pair exudes a progressive design, made of superior quality at fair prices. My high waists have become the most desirable item in my wardrobe due to the denim’s strength which magically sculpts to your body yet leaves you embracing the comfort of wearing tracky-dacks. Seriously, there is nothing more important than owning a good-fitting pair of jeans. Dr. Denim delivers unisex designs that appeal to everyone.
