Pat and Stick’s Icecream Sandwiches

As the weather heats up, queues outside ice cream parlours and gelaterias grow as everyone’s minds turn from warming up to cooling down with their ice confectionary of choice. Strangely, given their tantalising combination of biscuit and icecream, the humble ice cream sandwich is an often overlooked option in the quest for the big cold delicious. Good friends Pat and Stick are bringing this forgotten treat of old back with their handmade gourmet icecream sandwiches, made fresh in Sydney.

Using only high-quality natural ingredients, these sweet treats are available at several retailers (find your nearest using their handy Facebook locator) throughout Sydney and Melbourne. Coming in nine too-good-to-resist flavours such as peppermint choc-chip and double Belgian choc, say good-bye to the waffle cone and get on board with Pat and Stick this Summer.

Henry of Harcourt ciders

Cider is the new beer. Everyone knows this. But the problem is, just like beer, now the market is flooded with the full gamut of low and high quality drinks in a variety of appetising and not-so-appetising flavours. So how does the discerning cider drinker choose? One brand remains true to its roots — Henry of Harcourt, who produce traditional apple ciders and perry (pear cider) an hour north of Melbourne. B*Witched C’est La Vie video

Sometimes good things are good, but sometimes crap things are great. This video is definitely great. Featuring a modern day love story between a hedgehog and a cat, set to the debut single — C’est La Vie — from everyone’s favourite relegated-to-my-mid-90s-suppressed-consciousness Irish girl group B*Witched, this video demands nothing more than to sit back and bask in its awesomeness.

First world problems such as ‘which imported beer should I drink tonight?’ will soon have more wide-reaching consequences with the imminent (fingers crossed) opening of Shebeen, a new Melbourne watering hole cum international development from entrepeneur Simon Griffiths. Read more

Ben Grasso creates some of the most exciting paintings I have ever seen. He depicts exploding (or imploding, or disintegrating, I can’t decide) natural and architectural structures, often at surreal angles or amongst clouds. For me though, there’s something quite calming about the considered way in which these subjects are broken up. It’s all very beautiful. Read more

Where, oh, where was this chair when I was an impressionable youngster, licking sherbet spoons and fantasizing about being lost in the sugar-coated world of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. Dutch-German designer Pieter Brenner, take a bow. Just don’t bow down too close to my goddamn sugar chair. Read more

Unlike a lot of other web comic artists, the guys at Team Society League can actually draw well. They’re also freaking hilarious. Seriously, can you top pulling God’s finger?

They’re touring with Kimya Dawson; have Karen O and Nick Zinner from Yeah Yeah Yeahs playing on their record and have already been remixed by Brazilian powerhouse, CSS. And that’s not all. They are a two piece, and one of them is 11 and the other 13! They’re called Tiny Masters of Today. The Ramones would approve.

What a wonderfully grown up ethos of punk is to be found in the latest effort by New Zealand’s Stolen Girlfriends Club. I saw sequin, lace, leather, denim, tulle, rhinestone and what appeared to be heshen, breaking all the rules of taste but nevertheless making me very, very happy. Read more
