Our Inspiring Friend: Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 mini
Our friends at Sony Ericsson asked us what inspires us. We responded with this series of portraits featuring a couple of our favourite Australian creative types, and one of the members of the Lost At E Minor team. All of them are pioneers of new ideas: Tim McPhee is one half of the ethereal folk pop group Firekites; Gillian Bencke creates wonderfully creative and quirky handmade dolls; and Zac Zavos, a Lost At E Minor co-founder, was named one of Sydney’s Creative Catalysts. We asked each of them to tell us their creative inspirations, which you’ll see next to each of their portraits. At the same time, we were lucky enough to play with Sony Ericsson’s new Xperia™ X10 mini smartphone. [Photos, concept and art direction by Tim Neve]
Don’t let the compact size deceive you: it’s packed full of innovative technology to help you through your daily creative process, as our featured artists discovered. It’s also as light as a feather — so much so that we could float it on helium balloons! — and is the world’s smallest Android smartphone. Now, that is smart. Right? With an impressive selection of apps available, this gadget can truly become your creative side-kick. Yes, it’s an inspiring friend indeed.

New York car space being sold for 1 million dollars
Only in New York? We think so, though those in Tokyo may disagree. According to that reputable news source, the UK’s Daily Mail, a ‘developer of a luxury condo building in New York City’s Greenwich Village has listed a parking spot for $1 million’. That’s right. And the spot only holds one car, measuring in at an underwhelming 12 feet by 23 feet. So is it even semi-reasonable to ask this much? The New York Post thinks not. They’ve determined that ‘driver would have to rack up a $115 illegal parking ticket every day for 24 years before reaching the cost of this luxury garage’. Ah, the joys of deep pockets.

Breakfast inspires me. It drags me out of bed. It feeds me.
You know those stand out days – the ones that shape your life? There might only be a dozen and they might have all ended in different ways: joyful tears or a hard lesson learned. But the thing is that every one of those days started the same way for me. Every day that has ever mattered in my life, started with breakfast.
So when I reach for that cereal bowl in the morning, there’s that quiet promise that it could be another milestone day.

For me my inspiration comes from music.
It drives me in all aspects of life. Regardless of the situation a song is always there to relate to.
As a composer and performer, I’m inspired to relate myself to others and be inspired by their comments. Music is a united language and what is more inspiring than that.

I’m inspired by all the wonderful teachers who opened my eyes and mind, and taught me to look for the right questions, rather than simply the right answers.
