3D optical illusion to prevent road accidents
This is very clever. In order to prevent accidents in the District of West Vancouver, ‘the optical illusion of an illustrated girl chasing a ball has been placed on the road northbound at 22nd street’, with signs approaching it warning drivers that ‘you’re probably not expecting kids to run out on the road’. Unsurprisingly, it’s been an contentious discussion point amongst local residents.

uh. Might people not swerve to avoid said illusion, causing further accidents?

That is the most idiotic thing ive ever seen. So you’re driving down the road and a child appears ahead of you. What do you do? You stop, slow down completely or swerve to avoid. Causing more traffic bottlenecks or accidents as diego said.

I agree with Tony!

Anything distracting when driving is a hazard – this is ridiculous

it’s pretty cool as a concept, but i don’t think it’s a good idea for actually putting in the road. like everyone said above, seems like people would just swerve and cause more accidents… the thing about driving and cars is they’re not safe anyway, they never have been. the best you can do to avoid accidents is convince people to not drive intoxicated, make school for driving more difficult and more of a priority, make safer cars etc. but it’s not like there’s some “plan” to follow when you encounter this situation (other than just trying to be very alert and fast reflexes, and of course, being a good driver). it’s not like if you just nudge at people to remember there’s kids in the road sometimes that they’ll do something different. the only thing you can really do in that situation at this present time, is swerve, or stop. both could cause more accidents…. cars don’t really fit into the ideal world, they’re dangerous. end of story.
but yeah still it’s a cool concept.
