Bovey Lee’s Intricate Papercuts
Bovey Lee is a full-time artist, living and working in Philadelphia. Originally from Hong Kong, Lee creates highly intricate paper-cuts on rice paper by hand (no laser cutting machines involved) and then backs them with silk.

Cattle Depot Artist Village in Hong Kong
I recently went to a cool place called the Cattle Depot Artist Village, one of the few places in Hong Kong where artists gather and meet to create. The site was originally used as a slaughterhouse between 1908 and 1999 but now has been renovated into a village for artists.
Alexei Lyapunov and Lena Ehrlich must have a really calm hand and a vivid fantasy. At least, that’s what’s needed for their kind of sophisticated paper cut art. The two Russians from Novosibirsk create complex scenes out of colored paper. The result is pretty amazing and brings you right back into childhood. Read more

Hockern: the new German sport of Extreme Sitting
Breakdance and skateboarding are from yesteryear: Hockern is the new trend sport on the streets these days. The origins of Hockern can be traced back to the German coast city of Kiel, where people with too much time on their hands and not much interest in breaking their bones invented a few tricks that have since spread around the world. Hockern loosely translates into ‘stooling’, although the more appropriate expression for it would be ‘extreme sitting’. The actual activitiy can be described as simply as this: ‘Just grab a stool and rock it like a hockstar!’

I’m enjoying the writing on the recently launched The Epi-Cure blog, which discusses the ‘latest scientific studies on health and nutrition’, and features interviews with ‘expert scientists, dieticians, and nutritionists’. The Presets are a Sydney-based electronic duo, consisting of Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes. In September 2005 they released their debut album, Beams, to positive critical response. That same year Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes also toured with The Dissociatives, which is co-fronted by Daniel Johns of Silverchair and Australian dance producer Paul Mac. Johns also played guitar on Presets single Cookie. Hamilton and Moyes are also members of Sydney instrumental group Prop.
