Cattle Depot Artist Village in Hong Kong
I recently went to a cool place called the Cattle Depot Artist Village, one of the few places in Hong Kong where artists gather and meet to create. The site was originally used as a slaughterhouse between 1908 and 1999 but now has been renovated into a village for artists.

Alexei Lyapunov and Lena Ehrlich must have a really calm hand and a vivid fantasy. At least, that’s what’s needed for their kind of sophisticated paper cut art. The two Russians from Novosibirsk create complex scenes out of colored paper. The result is pretty amazing and brings you right back into childhood. Read more

Inspired by the traditional Chinese craft of paper-cutting, these lashes by Paperself are as intricate as they are delicately pretty. Available in three styles — horses, peonies and peach blossoms which symbolise success, happiness and love respectively.

Hockern: the new German sport of Extreme Sitting
Breakdance and skateboarding are from yesteryear: Hockern is the new trend sport on the streets these days. The origins of Hockern can be traced back to the German coast city of Kiel, where people with too much time on their hands and not much interest in breaking their bones invented a few tricks that have since spread around the world. Hockern loosely translates into ‘stooling’, although the more appropriate expression for it would be ‘extreme sitting’. The actual activitiy can be described as simply as this: ‘Just grab a stool and rock it like a hockstar!’

Curious every day items by Nancy Fouts
Nancy Fouts has made it her goal to combine every day items in an evocative way. Somehow her creations seem to blend in and only at second glance you realize what’s strange about them. I am a particular big fan of her purse with teeth and the sewing machine record player. Read more

Kevin Van Aelst is an artist from Connecticut. He tends to leave his fingerprints wherever he goes — a habbit that is commonly considered a flaw, but in his case, we’ll make an exception and call it virtuous art. Read more

History is the story of the winners, and western dominated culture recounts few triumphs from the east. Mongol is an effort to correct this balance, and the eastern influence is evident in much more than just the storyline. It is more like a fairy tale or legend handed down through generations, than based on fact, with mythical elements playing a major part, and the character’s motivations remaining simple. Read more

I’m enjoying the writing on the recently launched The Epi-Cure blog, which discusses the ‘latest scientific studies on health and nutrition’, and features interviews with ‘expert scientists, dieticians, and nutritionists’. The site’s founder and editor, Michelle Grey, also runs tasty, healthy recipes from New York chef Benjamin Towill, including today’s installment: Stuffed Zucchini Flowers [above]. Hmmm hmm. Read more
The Presets are a Sydney-based electronic duo, consisting of Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes. In September 2005 they released their debut album, Beams, to positive critical response. That same year Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes also toured with The Dissociatives, which is co-fronted by Daniel Johns of Silverchair and Australian dance producer Paul Mac. Johns also played guitar on Presets single Cookie. Hamilton and Moyes are also members of Sydney instrumental group Prop.

My commitment issues have always prevented me from getting a tattoo, and temporary tattoos always seemed kind of lame. That is until I discovered Tattly: a temporary tattoo company full of quirky hand drawn-esque images begging to be mine.
