Cloudscapes at the Venice Biennale

The premise behind this architectural installation, featured in this year’s Venice Biennale, is that clouds are nature’s very own framing tool. This poetic tribute to clouds captures the stuff that dreams are made from, and thanks to the engineering team, Transsolar and Japanese-based Tetsuo Kondo architects, people can feel the ethereal texture of walking amongst clouds without having to kiss the sky.

Molo Design’s portable walls

Molo Design’s range of softwalls is basically a portable wall, which allows you to create intimate spaces within a room. The free-standing flexible structure acts as a partition, which you can rearrange at ease as well as expand or contract to (almost) any possible size. Not only that, it’s also 100% recyclable and comes in a range of neutral colours, or translucent or with in-build LED lights.

Contemporary dance by Hiroaki Umeda

In this contemporary dance performance, Hiroaki Umeda alongside some extraordinary lighting design come together to create a visual spectacle to a soundtrack akin to white noise. Umeda’s masterclass hip hop influenced choreography is awe-inspiring, and each move he makes is enhanced by the array of perspectives and illusions the lighting work creates.

Chiharu Shiota

Chiharu Shiota is a Berlin-based Japanese artist responsible for these intricate large scale art installations. Allegedly, Shiota had woken up one day and felt as if her entire room was entwined with black thread. This became the inspiration for many of her artworks, where gallery spaces are often illed with zig-zagging thread, creating this impenetrable, sometimes gothic looking, web. Read more

Living Feral, aka Tracy Jager, does really wonderful collage work that makes you feel very nostalgic and acidic at the same time. This is one of my favorites called ‘you’d planned to move with a kind of largeness’.

I’m enjoying reading the insight and witticisms of the Indie Breakfast Club blog, which casts a wide net over entrepreneurship and what it means to be one and still have a conscience.

Three piece, cLOUDDEAD, who formed in Cincinnati at the tail-end of the last millenium, fuse traditional hip hop beats with indie, electronica and psy-rock overtones. Doesone and Why?’s layered, poetic vocals cover the personal, political and social elements of their lives; and, above all, their flatout rejection of traditional musical boundaries makes them a quirky and unique act.

I received a Kobe Beefcake t-shirt today and I’m already in meat-lover’s heaven. Who’d have thought all those funky shapes are actually cuts of meat? This new label from Kobe Japan is an insider’s (and meat-lover’s) treasure.
