Fashion photographer, Joanna Totolici, has recently started a side project, Toto Photo, focusing on dog portraits, and she took some adorable photos of our Affenpinscher, Selma Lou. Selma can be a bit shy with strangers, but she proved to be a natural for the camera and Joanna was very patient and had great timing. Thankfully, Joanna favors the mischievous pups, because ‘they make for the best images’.
Of the transition from shooting models to dogs she says: ‘After being used to wrangling models, hair stylists, makeup artists, wardrobe stylists and art directors, each with their own assistants, convincing a doggie to shine for a hundredth of a second is a breeze. Fashion models need three people and three hours of work to look stunning. A dog is beautiful 24/7′. She is currently taking four (and three!) legged clients of all breeds, although she has a soft spot for unusual looking mutts. You can see Selma and many other pups at Joanna’s show at Boulevard Cafe in Bushwick, Brooklyn.

TrustoCorp at Brooklyn Brothers Gallery
The Brooklyn Brothers Gallery opened yesterday with an original exhibition of more than 40 artworks by New York-based art group TrustoCorp — who are ‘dedicated to highlighting the hypocrisy and hilarity of human behavior through sarcasm and satire’. This is the first exhibit for The Brooklyn Brothers Gallery, and marks the opening of their permanent gallery exhibit space. The TrustoCorp exhibit will run through May 2, and is available for viewing by appointment.
Vote for the twelfth best whistler in the world
Many summers past, when my hair was longer and my waistline slimmer, I became the unofficial trainer for an aspiring whistler, who just happened to be one of my housemates in the spacious Williamsburg loft I was living in. He since went on to place twelfth in the annual World Whistling Convention last year, and will heading across to China to compete again this year. In the interim, Tim Eggert is under consideration to whistle the National Anthem before an Orlando Magic home game and also in the running to whistle the anthem for Collective Soul’s upcoming outdoor concert. The fans vote, so we’ve gotta get the word out and get this guy whistling, as John Lennon would say, all the way to the toppermost of the poppermost. Vote for Tim Eggert now!
Victorian Photocollage exhibition at the Met
Anyone who has seen my art knows about how endlessly inspired I am by macabre, Victorian art, and writing. Well, pass the smelling salts as the recently-opened Victorian Photocollage exhibition at the Met in New York makes me swoon. 48 works from 1850-1860 combine animal heads with human bodies (my favorites), or depict fantastical landscapes and other curiosities. Made primarily by aristocratic women to be shared amongst friends, the photocollages shed a unique perspective on how even the stuffiest members of society are able to express their creativity.

In early 1965, LIFE photographer Bill Ray spent several weeks with The Hells Angels. Ray recalls his days and nights with Buzzard, Hambone, Big D, and other Angels (and their ‘old ladies’) at a time when the roar of Harleys and the sight of long-haired bikers was still new, alien, and for the average, law-abiding citizen, simply terrifying. Really awesome, and strangely representative of the Patterson aesthetic. I once made a cameo in a reggaton video that was shot at a boxing club there. Read more
