Bendable and interactive magazine covers

For the November issue of Novum Magazine, German design studio Paperlux created six versions of bendable magazine covers that playfully invites people to interact with it: ‘Small, colorful triangles are punch cut from the cover, so that you can bend, fold, and ripple along the geometric lines’. Here’s an issue you will be leaving on the coffee table for your guests. Read more

Brandpowder

We are immersed in a fast, accelerating environment with no time for contemplation. We devour things without retaining much. In my work, I like to slow down, recycling images and messages, playing with objects and brands, in an attempt to extract a sort of fine powder: the unconsumed beauty of things. Read more

How the Internet’s biggest sites looked at launch

How the times have changed! Check out these awesome screenshots of how some of our favourite websites looked at the very moment they launched back in the day, then be grateful for the savvy workings of digital designers. Mind you, I think the New York Times back then kinda looked easier to read. Read more

Hire a professional dumper to end your relationship

Marketing executive Jonathan Kiekbush has a pretty interesting night job: he breaks up people’s relationships. That’s right, for a small set fee (£5 plus expenses), he’s a professional dumper. Trivial fact: most of his clients are men. Not surprisingly, as our friends at Oddity Central have noted, he’s single himself.

I love the subtle colours and sense of quiet introspection in the photographic work of San Francisco-based Elena Kulikova. Her portraits, in particular, capture moments when you sense a little secret has been whispered, but only a few ears have caught it. Of her work, it’s said: ‘the micro-details of a scene contribute to the overall goal of creating an image fueled with complete feeling and purpose’. Read more

I think I’m turning into a housewife because I really love this clip-on bin by Jay Kwak Design that makes it really easy to sweep crap off of a table.

I’m really excited about the Melbourne band Plug-in City. They remind me of Belle & Sebastian, The Kooks and Cut Copy all in one. What more can us New Yorkers ask for?

Setting Sun’s cover of Tom Petty’s You Got Lucky was recently released as part of Buffet Libre DJ’s compilation CD, Rewind 2. Says frontman, Gary Levitt, of their version on the song: ‘We got back from our European tour on Christmas Eve with a December 27th deadline for the track looming. It was finally started on December 26th and then sent off completed the next day. It was a great exercise in having to let some things go. That’s twenty-four hours out the door complete, old school style. That’s how records used to be made. Motown, baby, MOTOWN!’ We have the song for free download in our Music Download section [psst, it's in the third column of the site]

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
