The Pothole Project
Artist Pete Dungey was sick of getting a bumpy ride on Britain’s pothole-ridden roads. So he decided to do something about it. Rather than taking the bitter-and-twisted approach of putting together a petition and writing letters he set about creating beautiful gardens in the holes. Sometimes the softly sweetly approach gets noticed more, don’t you think?

Grow an indoor garden in a bottle cap
You don’t have space for an herb garden, you say? Well not anymore. Just grab a soda bottle, pop off the top, and voila! Your plot is ready for action. In 1949, renowned LIFE photographer Gjon Mili visited Pablo Picasso in the South of France. Using a small flashlight in a dark room, Picasso created wildly free and fluid drawings while Mili snapped away. The resulting images are, erm, electric. Read more

These ‘manner posters’ appeared in Tokyo subways between 1976 and 1982, informing passengers on subway etiquette and good manners. We’re not sure why it didn’t catch on elsewhere — a colourful and entertaining poster versus a crackly intercom message from a bored driver? Hmm.
