Pop Cakes sweets
Based out of London, Pop Cakes sweets are all the rage. And it’s little wonder why. Fluffy chocolate sponge cake, fastened on a lolli stick, is dipped into cream cheese icing, then lovingly hand decorated by Pop Cakes’ owner and founder, Clare O’Connell. Here, her creativity is unleashed, with sugary embellishments ranging from Russian dolls to the Union Jack (which is, by the by, aptly named the Brit Pop). Order the cakes online and they’ll be delivered to your door.

Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared animation
I’ve been a fan of This Is It Collective’s work since I saw their first video, Bad Things That Could Happen. This Is It is a collective of illustrators, animators, artists and designers based in London and they produce colourful, well-designed animations and videos. This one in particular made me snigger with joy.
Oddities abound at the Wellcome Collection London
Napoleon Bonaparte’s toothbrush, Charles Darwin’s walking stick, Lord Nelson’s razor, pieces of tattoed human skin from 1850, male anti-masturbation devices from 1880 … all those pieces are in the Wellcome Collection permanent exhibition in London. Half morbid and half historic, they have excellent temporary exhibitions, but their permanent one is worth the visit to this not very famous museum.
One Dot Zero is a great website showcasing contemporary visual arts projects based in London. I found it when researching alternative forms for my course in Film and Theatre. But it’s also a good outlet for filmmakers, amateur animators, or artists to get involved in.

David Maisel’s photoseries entitled History’s Shadow explores art objects from antiquity in a new light. He photographed x-rays of the Getty Museum’s permanent collections that had been taken for the purpose of art preservation. His photos create a detachment from the original artwork, while illustrating how each piece is still alive. The results are serenely beautiful. Read more

Wow! This song — More Childish Than In A Long Time — from Swedish teenage twins Taxi Taxi! just burst into my headphones like the first welcome glare of a mid-morning sunshine, stinging my ears wickedly with its coarse, repetitive beauty. The forlorn, introspective lyrics and melody tease and shimmer, sending a fleeting and not-so-subtle tap on the shoulder to hit repeat, repeat, and soak it all up again.
