|San Francisco-based painter Kevin Taylor’s art can be perceived as both dark and ominous, or quirky and lighthearted — depending on your mood. His otherworldly paintings manage to tell stories without fitting to any narrative mould, inspiring a certain amount of imagination in the viewer. Looking at them, they remind me of childhood story illustrations, on crack.

Relaxed and elegantly worn goes with the territory in these parts, but this particular cafe has all the local tastes and flavours, with the quirkiness and natural cool you might find people trying to replicate in other parts of the world. A homage to the teapot, this cafe offers food and hot and cold beverages in an interior littered with vintage teapots, trinkets and relics from the old tea trade days of the Malabar coast.

Originally hailing from Kendal, Cumbria and now based in Leeds, the Wild Beasts foursome are the next hopefuls for Domino Records, who sent the group out to Sweden to record their first album, Limbo, Panto, released on June the 16th. The new single — The Devil’s Crayon — shimmers in wide-screen around a sense of location, melody and wonder at the scale of things. Indeed, it sounds like the theme song to a new kind of very English road movie.
