Mamasita

The Mexican wave has finally hit Australian shores. Leading the pack is Mamasita, run by New York trained Matt Lane. Mamasita (hidden upstairs) is located in the French End of Melbourne’s Collins Street, yet embodies everything we love about authentic, unpretentious dining. The menu is made for sharing, with small tapas style Mexican classics such as tacos and quesadilas to be accompanied by many Margueritas. Try scoring a bar seat for dinner and enjoy long and laid back delicious meal.

I usually am not the hugest fan of contemporary tattoo-related art, but I really like the energy and the intimacy Shawn Barber conveys with his portraits of heavily tattooed people. He really captures the sort of empowerment tattoos give the people who get them. I can’t wait until he does a portrait of Rick ‘Zombie Boy’ Genest. Read more

Driven by a wide spectrum of influences, the music of Brass Bed moves easily through an eclectic mix of genres: from alt-country ballads and progressive rock hooks, to sticky-sweet, heart-felt lyrics, and dissonant experimental freak-outs. We have two of their songs — Olivia [listen below] and Polar Bird — available for free download in the Music Download section in the third column of Lost At E Minor.
