Embroidered Wonder Bread

Forget peanut butter and jelly. Artist Catherine McEver kicks up plain old white Wonder bread by embroidering on these humble slices. Yes, embroidering.

Stitching colorful floss into this nostalgic lunchtime favorite, she carefully (‘very, very carefully’, that is) threads designs and scenes inspired by nature. There’s even a homage to Van Gogh’s Starry Night. Along with bread, McEver experiments with other unlikely objects to make unique — some say random, others, wasteful — art out of food. There’s a baby shoe made out of bologna for one. And believe it or not, all are available for purchase.
