Landscape photos resemble traditional Chinese paintings
Chinese born Don Hong-Oai spent most of his life in Saigon, where he apprenticed with a photography studio. He stayed in Vietnam through the war, before fleeing by boat to California in the late 1970s. While living in San Francisco, he went back to China every few years to create new negatives. He remained largely unknown until the final years of his life when he was finally discovered by the wider public. He died in 2004. Read more
Chinese artist Liu Bolin makes himself become invisible
Who said becoming invisible was impossible? Well, whoever it was was that crushed our childhood fantasies never got around to Chinese artist, Liu Bolin, who is able to camouflage himself deeply amongst any surroundings. His art is intended as a protest against the persecution of artists by the Chinese government, and each photo takes him some ten hours to stage. Read more

These twin sixty-story towers to be built in Malaysia feature a combination of ‘continuous, flowing, double-curved perforated surface with a flickering, crystalline, transparent single-curved surface that is triangulated on an enormous scale’. The design by New York-based architectural firm, Asymptote, includes a 400,000 square foot retail section and the Penang Performing Arts centre.

I’ve just come across the music of Minneapolis band Cloud Cult, and their song Chemicals Collide in particular. Their sound is a mix of scratchy acoustic guitar riffs mixed in with staccato beats and airy harmonies, all infused with a beautiful sense of lyrical melancholy. Read more
