LEGO does Frank Lloyd Wright

We love the new LEGO series, LEGO Architecture, which started as a partnership with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation to render six of his iconic buildings as LEGO buildings. Other famous constructions in the series include the Sears Tower, Seattle Space Needle and the Taj Mahal.

Lego Architecture

Grown men who get excited over Kid Robot products and ‘adult’ toys generally give me the heebie-jeebies, but Lego’s new Lego Architecture division gets me pretty excited. Soon you’ll be able to build iconic buildings such as Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater and the Guggenheim Museum, in addition to the Taj Mahal, the Sears Tower, the Seattle Space Needle, and others already available.

From the ‘what were you thinking’ file comes this news report of a man in Fort Lauderdale accused of drug trafficking who turned up to court for his trial wearing a jacket with a cartoon recipe for cooking crack cocaine. Yes, smart indeed.

New Banksy artwork angers the Catholic Church

Banksy has struck again, this time offending the Catholic Church with a bold artwork that critiques their stance on ongoing child abuse scandals. Banksy has taken a replica of a bust of an eighteenth century member of the Catholic hierarchy and added multi-coloured tiles to the face — pixelating it — as a comment on what he considers to be the Church’s cover-up. ‘I’m never sure who deserves to be put on a pedestal or crushed under one’, Banksy noted. And who are we to disagree? Read more

Tattoo artist sued by ex-girlfriend for obscene design

Oh boy, this is so bizarre it could only be true. Apparently a Dayton, Ohio, tattoo artist has been slapped with a $100,000 lawsuit by his ex-girlfriend for tattooing an image of, erm, excrement with flies on her back rather than the scene from Narnia that she had requested. The reason? He’d recently found out that she had been cheating on him with one of his buddies. Damn! And here we were thinking this was the hot new look for trailer park trash crowd.

I wish I could make it to the first solo exhibit of South African artist Nicholas Hlobo. His found-material sculptures confront issues of race, gender, and sexuality that still confound contemporary South African culture as it does the rest of the world. Read more

Moscow, China, Armenia, Finland. So many destinations that Laure Fissore, a young French illustrator, has elegantly drawn. Her latest book, New York, is full of posey with very realistic images of the Big Apple: a touch of colour here and there, the yellow cab, the wonder wheel, Chinatown. I am already transported.

Australian group Pivot have recently signed with the mighty Warp label and — even better (well, for us anyway) — have written a fun Secret Playlist for us. You can see where the many disparate influences have seeped into their latest recording, the beautiful and colourful, O Soundtrack My Heart.

Lost At E Minor co-publisher, Andy Howard, is on a whirlwind tour of America at the moment, en route to his new base in London. He’s been diligently documenting his travels through his camera, the images from his New York leg being particularly interesting. Read more

An anonymous public school teacher known as Mrs. Q, following Morgan Spurlock’s lead, decided to eat every school lunch served to her for the duration of 2010. At the risk of her job, she documents her experience on her blog, which features photographs of the atrocious, shrink-wrapped, processed poison that she and her students are forced to choke down every school day.

Hmmm, I don’t know if it’s the extra strong coffee I’m gulping down, or that faintest slither of feel good sunshine that’s creeping through the blinds, but this song is making me feel mildly euphoric, and that kinda works right now. Play it loud. Play it through headphones. And imagine you’re decked out in day glo polyester with a dramatic burst of velvet lining. Damn, my feet just can’t stop from dancin’.
