Roger Hiorns’ Seizure installation

Last year artist, Roger Hiorns was nominated for a Turner Prize with this art installation, Seizure. For this work, Hiorns pumped 75,000 liters of liquid copper-sulfate into an empty public housing flat in London, which resulted in the rooms being covered with stunning blue crystals. His new work, Untitled (Alliance), consists of two airplane engines filled with prescription drugs, and is currently on view at the Art Institute of Chicago.

Boring still life objects turned into intriguing erotic images

Amsterdam-based photographers Blommers and Niels Schumm both studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam and started working together in 1998. They operate in a zone between fashion, art and photography, with shifting perspectives, where images move back and forth between different meanings. In this shoot for Baron Magazine, Blommers and Schumm made normal objects appear erotic. ‘It’s nice that people think they are perverts, looking at these boring still lifes,’ they say. It goes without saying that Hip Hop has taken a few very low hits in the past decade. Thanks to the likes of 50 Cent and company, it accounts for around 40% of all music sold in America. It’s a huge industry. So where does that leave Hip Hop artists doing something a bit different? Lord T and Eloise wear wacky outfits, make crazy music and bring a whole lot of fun back into Hip Hop. What’s more, they’ve started a new genre called ‘Aristocrunk’. Watch out!
