Mercedes-Benz F-Cell
While the car bloggers invited by Mercedes-Benz to test drive their latest vehicles were drooling over the sports cars and limousines (and the armored truck that I somehow missed because I’m an buttmunch), I was really fascinated by the hydrogen powered fuel cell vehicle aka the F-Cell.
I had heard tell of such a vehicle, and other car manufacturers have certainly thrown their hats in the ring with what are mostly hybrids, but the Daimler AG F-Cell is the real deal, a zero-emissions vehicle that drives just like any other, with a top speed of 106mph and a range of about 230 miles before it needs a hydrogen refill. The problem is that the infrastructure to support the car is forbiddingly expensive and is at least several years away from being ready, so don’t expect to see F-Cells on the road any time soon. It was fun taking one on the Autobon though.

The first album released by the Malian duo Amadou & Mariam, Dimanche a Bamako, bordered on exceptional, if not for its songwriting then for its sheer diversity. Not to sound like sour grapes cause I drive a 4-speed Toyota worktruck with a benchseat, no radio and 185K miles, but I’m surprised that this otherwise amazing vehicle has the bodystyle of a Ford Escort hatchback. Maybe its the angle of the photo. Ot just a bit of schadenfreude that I didn’t get to go on a test drive too….
