Chromeo’s Night By Night (Skream remix)

I love this slow, dark drum and bass burn remix by UK dubstep producer Skream of the recent release, Night By Night, by Montreal electro-funk duo, Chromeo. Dave 1 of Chromeo says of the remix: ‘I was confused when I first heard this: all of a sudden, our song sounded like a Bone Thugs record. That’s because I couldn’t hear Skream’s satanic sub-bass on my computer speakers. Then I switched systems and it made perfect sense. Play this loud and you’ll hear all the hypnotic qualities you’d expect from the grand wizard’. [Listen to Night By Night now]

Vibrant, colourful photos of New York in 1971

We love the voyeuristic thrill of these photos by Gentle Giant that ran on the Retronaut website and reveal a vibrant, thriving, bustling New York in 1971 that looks vaguely similar to the New York that I experienced between 2006 and 2011. Minus the beehive hairdoes, flares, and the big red phone booths, of course. Read more

There isn’t much to be said about these photos, they speak for themselves. I find myself revisiting them every other week or so just to be reminded of their brilliance. The photographer, Prokudin-Gorskii, developed an insanely ingenious technique that was worlds ahead of its time. Here’s a pretty detailed description of the RGB process. Read more

Pomocracy is a lifestyle statement Tumblr recently created in Berlin by PoMo, a nurse and designer. It’s an inspirational blog full of weird stuff.

Though most people in the West think of mahjong as a mysterious game old Chinese people play, it’s actually gets quite rowdy when people get together to play it. Rowdy is certainly a good adjective for Mahjongg, the exquisitely danceable electro-whatever outfit from Chicago who draw as much from Afrobeat as they do vocoder-laden sleaze rock from the 70s.

Jeans are a science, a science based on the deep knowledge of denim, washes and patterns, according to Dr. Denim, who have certainly twisted and turned every single atom of all their jeans into perfection. Each pair exudes a progressive design, made of superior quality at fair prices. My high waists have become the most desirable item in my wardrobe due to the denim’s strength which magically sculpts to your body yet leaves you embracing the comfort of wearing tracky-dacks. Seriously, there is nothing more important than owning a good-fitting pair of jeans. Dr. Denim delivers unisex designs that appeal to everyone.
