Guest contributor: Kareem Black in Haiti
New York-based photographer, Kareem Black, is a special guest Lost At E Minor contributor this week, writing about the artists and photographers that have caught his eye over the past year or so. He’s just returned from a week long visit to Haiti with six other creatives — photographers Wyatt Gallery, Alessandro Simonetti, writers Adam Reeves and Eugene Fuller, and illustrator Craig Duffney — from New York for Healing Haiti and Print for Change, documenting their experiences at the orphanages whilst delivering water. Vibrant, colourful photos of New York in 1971
We love the voyeuristic thrill of these photos by Gentle Giant that ran on the Retronaut website and reveal a vibrant, thriving, bustling New York in 1971 that looks vaguely similar to the New York that I experienced between 2006 and 2011. I wasn’t aware of who Emilio Pucci was until my work was compared to his for the hundredth time. I’m happy to have anyone make that connection. I’m not a high fashion person. It was an interesting revelation, and one that has sparked more interest for me to explore fashion as a medium for art.
