Zaha Hadid’s Maxxi
Ten years in the making, Iraqi-born architectural phenomenon, Zaha Hadid’s Museum of Art for the XXI Century, or MAXXI, is finally completed. Located in Rome, the museum’s contemporary design is a pleasant and eye-catching addition to the city’s mostly historic feel. Housing contemporary art and architecture, the 26,000 square metre building includes moveable hanging partitions that allow gallery-goers to move freely across the space, as well as stand and stare.

Cloudscapes at the Venice Biennale
The premise behind this architectural installation, featured in this year’s Venice Biennale, is that clouds are nature’s very own framing tool. This poetic tribute to clouds captures the stuff that dreams are made from, and thanks to the engineering team, Transsolar and Japanese-based Tetsuo Kondo architects, people can feel the ethereal texture of walking amongst clouds without having to kiss the sky. Improv Everywhere strikes again with a spontaneous musical in a Los Angeles mall. I’m totally addicted to a tape I downloaded from Awesome Tapes from Africa by Onipa Nua. The Ghanan street musician has since passed away, but hopefully he’s somewhere smiling knowing that his tunes make me smile as well.

I wasn’t aware of who Emilio Pucci was until my work was compared to his for the hundredth time. I’m happy to have anyone make that connection. I’m not a high fashion person. I keep to the basics and feel alright about it. The introduction to his work was mind blowing for me. Not only for the rich colors and patterns, but how those things worked with the human form. It was an interesting revelation, and one that has sparked more interest for me to explore fashion as a medium for art.
