555 Cubik video projection
Video projection on architecture is an obsession of mine. Building facades are rarely considered flexible canvasses, but with the art direction of Daniel Rossa, UrbanScreen were able to come up with this captivating project in Hamburg called, 555 Cubik. The concept of which was entitled, How It Would Be, If A House Was Dreaming. It’ll make you say, ‘Woooo, Ahhh’.

Molo Design’s range of softwalls is basically a portable wall, which allows you to create intimate spaces within a room. The free-standing flexible structure acts as a partition, which you can rearrange at ease as well as expand or contract to (almost) any possible size. Not only that, it’s also 100% recyclable and comes in a range of neutral colours, or translucent or with in-build LED lights.
Contemporary dance by Hiroaki Umeda
In this contemporary dance performance, Hiroaki Umeda alongside some extraordinary lighting design come together to create a visual spectacle to a soundtrack akin to white noise. Umeda’s masterclass hip hop influenced choreography is awe-inspiring, and each move he makes is enhanced by the array of perspectives and illusions the lighting work creates.

Cloudscapes at the Venice Biennale
The premise behind this architectural installation, featured in this year’s Venice Biennale, is that clouds are nature’s very own framing tool. Heavy metal and hip-hop are perhaps the most popular forms of rebellion for kids the world over. In Malaysia, metal — particularly black metal — has taken such a strong hold that the Fatwa Council there banned it, fearing that the music would compel listeners to rebel against religion. Contrary to the council’s intentions, black metal is as popular as ever in Malaysia, and is a recognizable cultural touchstone there, as indicated by the above clip from the 2005 film Filem Rock.
