Burzum’s Belus
by Varg Vikernes, aka Burzum, finally emerged from prison last year and immediately set to work recording a new album. Half the metal world has waited with bated breath to see whether post-prison Burzum would be a continuation of the strange, awkward, ‘ambient’ sound Vikernes developed while incarcerated, or would it be a return to the genre that he helped pioneer. Turns out, old Varg has picked up right where he left off seventeen years ago, screeching his bearded head off as if he were a church-burning teenager again. Good to see the old Count Grishnackh back! Seriously, though, this is a great album.

Kamrooz Aram is an Iranian-born artist that lives in Brooklyn. Pattern plays a big role in his work and he plays with iconography a lot. His series of paintings that have a greenish, night-vision goggle hue are pretty terrifying. Angels and hawks circle around Persian clouds and the point of view seems to be from an American soldier.
Improv Everywhere strikes again with a spontaneous musical in a Los Angeles mall. Wireless microphones hooked up to the mall’s PA system ensured the feeding masses didn’t slip into Cinnabon-induced comas until after the show was over. Note especially the angry dude in sunglasses at about 2:51 — apparently he thinks nothing can ever top Rent.
This is a house near Adelaide by architect Max Pritchard designed like a bridge (it’s actually built over a creek) to feel airy and unobtrusive in the surrounding nature. Read more
