Saelee Oh at New York’s Jonathan LeVine Gallery
Californian artist Saelee Oh believes everything in the universe is connected, so it’s only natural that this conviction would be the central theme to her current solo-exhibit Infinite Roots. Her stunning work often depicts a harmonious world full of energy. Whimsical narratives are told by horses, octopus and also through female figures. Infinite Roots features multi-medium pieces including paintings, drawings and hand-cut paper. The intricate detail involved with her floral creations astounds me. Catch the exhibit at New York’s Jonathan LeVine Gallery until February 13.

Think classic highlighter pink hair with a blunt cut, flamboyant makeup and Minaj’s signature Barbie necklace. All proceed of the doll’s auction will benefit Project Angel Food, an organisation that works to provide food for people affected by HIV and AIDS.

Canned fish is a staple for me on the road. High in omega-3s, high in protein, and generally low on cost, sardines, mackerel, and wild sockeye salmon out of a tin help keep me healthy when I don’t have access to a kitchen. In the States, I prefer the Bar Harbor brand of canned seafood. If I ever tour Sweden, I’ll have to try Garant based on their label design alone.

Caught The Dust Dive the other night at Glasslands. They’re a bunch of hippies, but even I have to admit, they’re atmospheric live show – consisting of violin, gently strummed guitar, a few piano and sampler twinkles here and there, and sound samples from the found footage projected behind the band – is really powerful, like the warm rush of fond memories that hits you an instant before the mushroom cloud annihilates everything. Frontman Bryan Zimmerman even plays the musical saw, and you really can’t argue with that.
