Part Chimp
Let’s take a road trip, just you and me. We’ll stop at every dive bar and truck stop from here to Minneapolis, and crash on dirty, beer-stained couches in the houses of people we barely know. We’ll wake up every morning, struggling to remember the night before or what city we’re in, and hit the road again. We’ll only have two albums in the car: Slayer’s Reign in Blood and Thriller by UK-based noise-rock trio Part Chimp. Years from now, when we’re settled down in mild-mannered burbs on opposite sides of the country, with our kids and wives and jobs, we’ll look down at the faded tattoos on our arms — dancing hotdogs wearing sunglasses with the words ‘BROS FOREVER’ underneath — and know that we had truly lived.

This entertaining documentary follows a group of seemingly clichéd American teenagers in their last year of high school. Through a comprehensive recording of their lives it reminds us that, when examining anything in detail, there is no such thing as a cliché. The naivety and hope of each student shines through, providing a memorable and accurate portrait of a middle-American high school. Read more

Beijing-based band Hanggai write original songs in the traditional folk styles of their Mongolian ancestors — throat-singing, horsehair fiddles, lutes — spearheading an Asian version of the old-time revival. Though it’s only through the digital age that the rest of the world can access this beautiful music, it makes you want to slow down and reflect on what we’ve lost as a species. This stuff makes every flavor of the month indie band seem vapid and meaningless.
I was initially drawn to Belgium-born Christophe Coppen’s jewellery before discovering that he produces two mens and womens collections each year, consisting not only of jewellery, also of but couture pieces and home accessories. With seven interior collections to his name, and a past history as both a theater director and an actor, his work is an expression of his creative brilliance.
