Baroque Bistro Patisserie
It’s official: Macarons are the new cupcakes. Tremendously colorful, bursting with flavor, and available in a range of tastes from classic to quirky, it’s clear why they’re the urban foodies must-have of 2010. And one hot spot gaining heaps of accolades for its crisp-on-outside, soft-on-the-inside version of these meringue-based biscuits is Baroque Patisserie, nestled in Sydney.
Along with a beautiful range of French pastries and cakes, Baroque churns out handmade, award-winning macarons in flavors from salted caramel and jasmine tea, to banana and avocado and the most popular, passionfruit with milk chocolate. And the patisserie will be adding Green and Gold varieties to their winning collection. Baroque’s also boasts a buzzing bistro, which according to those in the know, is certainly worth a trip in its own right for spot-on French fare. For now though, let’s skip straight to dessert.

Illustrated Kids Go Travel Guides
I really like the illustrator Tania Willis’ work and now she’s teamed up with Mio Debnam to produce these kid’s guide books. Avoiding the trap of thinking parents know best, they’ve asked kids in the various locations what their favourite days out, experiences, food, and so on are. So far they’ve covered Bali, Sydney, Hong Kong, Phuket, London and New York. My lad gives it 5 stars after a recent trip to Bali. Read more

Strip away the cookie monster vocals and downtuned, distorted guitars, it’s hard to imagine death metal still reading as death metal, but 8-bit duo Dr. Zilog manage to do just that. My friend Josh Van Horne, a local Baltimore artist, did this amazing mural in our neighborhood that depicts the history of this warehouse-laden area.
