World Beard and Moustache Championships
To be held in Trondheim, Norway, on May 14, 2011, the World Beard and Moustache Championships is a big deal. A BIG DEAL. Apparently, the United States is the ‘world’s new facial hair super power, having captured twelve world championship titles out of eighteen categories plus overall at the World Beard and Moustache Championships in Anchorage, Alaska in 2009′. So if you have a good handlebar, if you can connect the dots, then the next major event in the ‘sport of bearding will be the Beard Team USA Nationals in Bend, Oregon on June 5, 2010, where $5000 in cash prizes will go to best beards and moustaches in the USA’. Food Story: Norwegian organic juices
From rhubarb mimicking that infamous Marilyn Monroe pose, to cherries sweetly kissing, the quirky illustrations that adorn these bottles are brilliant and bold. Good thing too since Food Story, the Norwegian brand behind this new line of organic juices, is a concept café, boutique, and restaurant that aims to inspire through food. This series of ecological drinks does just that, having been developed in conjunction with local and organic farmers to produce a range of tasty fruity, all-natural flavors. Read more
Norwegian duo Royksopp — Torbjorn Brundtland and Svein Berge — not only create the warmest, sublimely uplifting and melodic electronica, but their music videos are always stupendously creative, as reflected in this selection of some of their finest. Read more
It’s soothing and sumptuous. It’s Zebra by Beach House. The harmonious opening track of Teen Dream is lovely and ridden with reverb. I don’t care if the album was leaked early. These songs will endure the test of time, just like their self-titled album has.

Beautiful and bizarre roads of the world
Yes, Paul McCartney wrote most eloquently of the Long and Winding Road, but even he would have amazed at the twisting, cavorting majesty of the roads revealed in these photos. Read more

I recently stumbled across the beautiful work of Isreali artist Tal R in all it’s raw and colourful splendor. Rough, spontaneous texture, tapestry-like compositions, and artfully placed drips all come together within Tal’s folksy oeuvre. I can’t even really decide which I’m swooning over more — the Grosz-like paintings or his fantastically raw drawings. Read more

I went to a Isol/Zypce concert in Buenos Aires last week and fell in love with their sound. This experimental singer-songwriter brother and sister duo proves that Argentinean music is not just about Tango. Though, of course, I love Tango, too!
Oh boy, this is fun. Omaha’s Tilly and the Wall are kitsch-cool-camp-vauderville meets pop-folk-flamenco, with a tap dancer for a drummer and some serious, serious charisma for a calling card.
AJ Dimarucot is a Manila-based designer specializing in t-shirt graphics. His work is electric, bursting with colour and momentum, like something you’d see in the Big Bang section at the Museum of Natural History. Or something like that. Read more
Baltimore’s Teeth Mountain create pulsing, shamanistic, tribal-sounding tracks from a bunch of floor toms, cello, mandolins, keyboards, saws, and whatever else they can get their hands on. The chaotic music they make is noisy, roughly-hewn, and impulsive-sounding, but that seems to be the point. They’re trying to evoke a sort of post-apocalyptic primitivism. It will be interesting to see where this collective takes their aesthetic.
