Many of Bill Dunlap’s pieces are vaguely reminiscent of Chinese opera masks and papercut decorations, while others have a cartoony, neo-kitsch qualtiy about them. Dense with color and texture, Dunlap’s work is a barrage on the senses in the best possible way.

I’ve just returned from a well earned holiday at Heron Island, a natural coral cay off the coast of Queensland. ‘I have been trying to go with my whims. Fuck it, let’s make an iPod album’. This statement from Team Genius leader Drew Hermiller was the jumping off point in the creation of the band’s debut self-titled full-length album, one of the most interesting and eclectic pop records of the year. ‘Basically it’s a reaction to the modern way music is consumed and listened to’, Hermiller says. ‘The idea of an album with a focused sound and a complete statement kind of gets lost now-a-days. Everyone shuffles around, so I thought “why not write an album that does the same thing?” Luckily, the band did an awesome job of keeping up with it’.
