Stumbling across the comics of artist Vanessa Davis just made my day. Her personal meanderings and sketchy style just make me want to read every little thing I can get my hands on. I especially enjoy the memior-esque series she’s been creating for Tablet Mag. I can’t think of any better way to procrastinate on a weekday afternoon.

I’ve been reading Julia Wertz’s web comic, The Fart Party, which is simply a first person account of her every day life. The artwork is pretty rudimentary, but that works to the comic’s advantage, making it rather accessible and earnest seeming. Updated every few days, it’s not hard to keep up, and you never have to wait long to get your next fix.

If you’re a fan of the weird and wonderful, you’d be stupid not to check out the work of Murray Somerville. His quirky illustrations transport you to a surreal and humorous world, and have appeared across a range of zines, comics, t-shirts and even Becks bottles.
I love the black and white portrait work of Australian illustrator, Anthony Hayes, whose artwork has adorned vinyl toys, shoes and the walls, no doubt, of his grateful friends.

Despite his name, I’m guessing German illustrator Frederik Jurk must be a cool guy because his images, his limited palette and gorgeous textured line work are awesome.
I was immediately taken with the work of California artist Zack Paul. Especially the images created on various bits of driftwood and found natural objects. The most perfect backdrop to his clean, geometric images.

People really do dance in the streets, drive 1950s Chevvies, and smoke big, fat cigars. However, it’s all set to change. Cloud Control have just unravelled a newly recorded track, Gold Canary, from their forthcoming 2010 album. It’s straight up pastoral Blue Mountains goodness. I actually heard it live earlier this year and it sounded quite rad.
