Pop-culture references, typography, monsters, and grotesque imagery permeates so much of contemporary 2D art these days, but never have I seen these elements integrated with as much of a sense of storybook-ish mystery as with David Jien’s pencil drawings

Boston-based artist Corey Corcoran synthesizes neo-primitivist visions out of found materials, fabrics, and a rusty palette of paints and pigments.
Sam Wolfe Connelly has a great illustrative style that has some graphic novel influences, but doesn’t seem overly rooted in any particular genre. He also manages to breath new life into cliched imagery when he hasn’t avoided cliches altogether.
Jason Hernandez draws from medieval religious art and classical European images to create grotesque yet vibrant images laden with contemporary social criticism. The punk-metalhead in me can’t get enough of this stuff.

FFFFOUND! is a fun website that allows you to bookmark your favorite images from the Internet and share them with fellow users, sort of like a del.icio.us specifically for pictures. The site is still in private beta and not currently supported on Mac, but as its collection of images expands, it’s likely to become much more widely available.
Melbourne designer Lilian Darmono and her co-director partner Mungo Horey were asked by Red Bee to come up with some ideas for the new children’s channel, ABC 3 Australia. Their idea for it ‘was centered around a magical world, in the shape of a giant 3, where all kinds of amazing things take place and unfold’. [See more Australian art and design at The Colour]
Seldom has black humour been done so well. On the surface, this film about the everyday lives of some unusually mundane characters, sounds extraordinarily boring. But it is instead a cutting comment on the absurdity and drudgery of everyday life. The characters try to break out or change their lives without success, and the results are bleak and hilarious. This little Greenwich Village shop is a blast from the past for me. From 1985 to 1993, I lived in West London and have always missed British candy and special foods. Low and behold, Myers of Keswick has it all. Weetabix cereal, Quality Street candy, Scotch Eggs, PG Tips tea! It’s absolutely amazing. But it’s not all just imports, they make fresh food everyday that you wouldn’t find anywhere else.
Now this is fun. The aptly named The Kooks cover the equally as aptly named MGMT for Australian radio network, Triple J. The song, Kids, is about as upbeat as any minor key progression can get. We like.
