We Fell To Earth’s Secret Playlist
by We Fell To Earth’s debut album contains grains of that desert night ambiance. Richard and Wendy’s harmonise beautifully on the likes of Lights Out, but tasty electronics are never far away, notably on the pulsing, bleeping Sovereign. We checked in with Wendy Rae Fowler and asked her about the songs that we’re on high rotation on her iPod. She started with David Bowie’s Heroes [listen below]: ‘Dreamy. This song puts me in a good mood. I love to blast it and chase the animals around the house. They like it too. I love the desperation in his voice in the last verse. It makes me wish I was him’. David Bowie doll by Suzie Smith
I found this excellent David Bowie doll in the general store at The Drake Hotel in Toronto (which is also one of my favourite places to play at) and I had to grab it. I subsequently found out that it is one of many created by Canadian artist Suzie Smith and she’s created a whole lot of other great stuff in various media which you can see at her site. I particularly like the folded hands and the interactive comic.

Star Wars Uncut: a fully crowdsourced version of Episode IV
The project of creative technologist, Casey Pugh, this full length version of the George Lucas masterpiece was created from multiple 15 second segments recreated from the original movie and submitted by thousands of Star Wars fans, which were then spliced together by editor Aaron Valdez to form the final product. Genius, as both a commentary on contemporary pop culture trends (there are references to LEGO, stop motion, memes and the like) and on the power of tapping your audience for quality material.
Filmmaker creates LEGO stop motion to propose to girlfriend
Now, this is one for the ages: back in 2010, Atlanta film-maker Walter Thompson created a jaw-dropping LEGO stop motion to propose to Nealey Dozier, his girlfriend of four years. The video took 22 hours of shooting and some 2,600 pictures to splice together, a small sacrifice to pay for years of happiness together. Right? Right! Oh, and she said yes. Bonus.

I think I’m turning into a housewife because I really love this clip-on bin by Jay Kwak Design that makes it really easy to sweep crap off of a table.
In Japan, when one makes squeezing gestures with both hands at chest level, one is gesturing that one wants candy — soft, round, bouncy candy. At least, that’s what this commercial would have us believe.
When you first see The Gershwin Hotel, you might think it’s an art gallery or a public art installation. The white, bird-like shapes sticking out of its red facade is certainly unique, without being too loud. The rooms are rather small but the location and accessible price range makes it all worth it.
Every year we get a new one, every year we play it safe. So, this year, why not open your mind a little and get hold of one of these tasteless date makers. If nothing else, it’ll be a very good conversation starter. Read more
