Tahiti 80′s compile their Secret Playlist
by Tahiti 80 recently released their fourth studio album, Activity Center. Hailing from Rouen, France, Tahiti 80 create atmospheric pop/rock with a hint of soul. We checked in with them and asked them about their favourite music right now. They started with the Mayer Hawthorne track, Just Ain’t Gonna Work Out [listen below]: ‘I read a review of his album in Mojo Magazine. I first thought the cover and press pictures were very cool. Then I heard the music, and totally concurred with what the journalist was saying. It’s modern-retro music with a soul. Favorite album of the year so far’. Is the soul colored or is it black and white? I find this quite confusing, since I believe that a colored soul is necessary for producing colored things. But then again, I’m sure that true color often comes from the deepest broken, damaged and divided black of one’s soul. Digital Jacklight is a mission to try and find out.
There’s no shortage of bands channeling the surf rock and psych of the 1960s, but the Super Vacations’ sloppy vocals, drunken guitar riffs, and blown out production give them a knowing swagger that has as much in common with Beat Happening and Thee Headcoats as with the Pyramids. They seem to take pride in how bad they are live, but their debut record shows a lot of potential.

We love the range of ultra-stylish ties created by New York-based designers, Ryan Sovereign and William Beck.
