Nollywood by Pieter Hugo
Hot on the heels of The Hyena and Other Men, South African photographer Pieter Hugo delivers yet another fascinating book documenting the Nigerian film industry. Nollywood is a glimpse into a world in which horror and spirituality are intertwined, and low-budget sets with local actors contribute to the symbolic nature of the work. Unfortunately, I think some animals were harmed in the making of these photos.

UK company Re-Worked turns rubbish into recycled products in an effort to reduce carbon emissions. Their latest effort is Çurface, a range of furniture (including coffee tables, appropriately enough) made from a mixture of used coffee grounds and polystyrene. The pieces can be ordered through their website and apparently they may smell like coffee grounds for the first few weeks. Sounds like a caffeine addict’s dream. Read more
Oh man, this is good. If Jamie Lidell was born in any earlier era, he would have soul brother number one plastered all over his birth certificate.
This isn’t an outdoor art installation, but it is still somewhat curated. Or maybe hoarded is a better description. Somewhere in the inner western suburb of Sydney’s Summer Hill, there is a brightly coloured collection of garden gnomes on display. The owner of the home is yet to be seen, but there are hundreds of gnomes, side by side, all with equally dopey expressions on their faces and accompanied by a second fixation: caterpillar soft toys. There are so many gnomes, the garden is no longer visible. Maybe it’s an Amelie style prank that has just piled up over the years? Read more

Finnish folk band Gjallarhorn is named for the horn that the Norse god Heimdall blows to announce Ragnarock — the end of the world. The bands music is far from dark, however: their brand of Scandinavian folk music incorporates mouth harps, fiddles, flutes, and even didgeridoo in a melange of cheerful, but ethereally beautiful tunes sung in Swedish.
Drawing upon both the traditional and the classically abstract ideals of tie design, the Sovereign Beck line of neckwear was created in limited quantity: bias cut and hand stitched in New York City. There are just 75 pieces per design.

The return of the Brionvega rr226
Italian brand Brionvega has resurrected the classy Radiofonografio piece first created in 1965. The updated version is just like the original turntable/radio unit, but also has a CD/DVD player.
On this Virgin Mary HaloTech watch, the dial is a modern version of the nineteenth century art form of lithophanes, carved porcelain sheets that, when lit, deliver astoundingly detailed images. When the pusher is activated, the dial springs to life in 3D. The watch features a light-up dial, LED light, and afterglo effect. Read more
