Chile’s Santiago a Mil Festival
If you’re going to Santiago, Chile, in January, and you’re a theatre, dance and performing arts lover, you should check out Santiago a Mil, one of the most important festivals in Latin America. It gathers artists from all over the world. 2010 is an especially emotive year because it’s the Bicentenary of the nation. Local companies are going to present the most emblematic national plays from the last two hundred years of Chilean theatre and emergent artists are invited, too, giving a renewed substance to the scene. Uruguayan songwriter Florencia Nuñez performs Oxímoron
A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of sharing a show with this unknown girl at a library. To be honest, I’ve never heard about her before, but from the moment this twenty year-old girl started singing, I was completely astonished with her voice. After the show, I talked a bit with her and she’s recording her first EP. I’m really looking forward to listening to it.

Illustrator Paola Gaviria works out of Cali, Colombia, doing Action Drawing at Lugar a dudas, having spent last year in Amazonia, where she set up a club through which her neighbors could learn more about the arts, themselves and their environment. Another project she is involved is a blog where a group of female artists communicate through short vignettes.
When I visited San Francisco a few years ago, in the middle of a film festival, on a beautiful morning when Spring was starting to dress us more colorfully and happy. I went to SFMoMA and saw an installation by the artist Ann Hamilton called Indigo Blue. Before going back to the cinema, I took a look into the gift shop. Near the books, I found glasses, author postcards, and a wallet that surprised me. It was part of the Poketo Collection, designed by Alex Noriega, an illustrator from Barcelona. Yesterday, I found his new project, Stuff No One Told Me, a blog with a collection of comics with funny and inspired sentences about our life. Alex Noriega told us more about his work. Read more

Named after the first openly gay politician in US history, Harvey Milk make some rather testosterone-heavy tunes. While appealing mostly to the stoner-rock and indie-metal set, the quintet from Athens, Georgia, aren’t afraid of a little melody, as the almost pop track Motown on their latest album, Life … the Best Game in Town, proves. But more often than not, the band gets down and dirty with some knuckle-dragging sludge rock. Amid the haze of searing guitar squeals, menacing power chords, and seismic bass rumbling, though, are some almost math-rock flourishes that hint at the brains behind the brawn.
I love the new range of plaid collared shirts from the aptly named Just Another Cheap Shirt,. When I walked into their showroom in Manhattan a few weeks back, my eyes nearly popped out of head at the sight of so many colours across so many shirts across so much space.
