Josh Cochran at Neon Monster

As such a fan of New York illustrator Josh Cochran’s work, I was excited to discover that he has several limited edition prints, as well as t-shirts, alongside artists Dalek — a Lost At E Minor contributor — and Rueben Rude available through Neon Monster – an online, and brick and mortar art and design collective, selling art, art toys, records, prints, and clothes, among other things. These items were created exclusively for Neon Monster for the very first art toy installation set up at Art Basel in Miami.

New York City: a tribute

U2 recorded a song called New York on their All That You Can’t Leave Behind LP, and another one after 9/11. I recorded my own tribute, We Rock for NY, in 2008. The city built on industry, money, power, wealth inequality, artistry, can be seen as a microcosm of the world. New York today is a completely different city than 40 years ago, with a new mix of people. Read more

Art gallery meets bistro at Miami’s Wynwood Kitchen & Bar

Miami’s up-and-coming arts district got a little bit cooler last year with the opening of Wynwood Kitchen & Bar, an art gallery-meets-bistro-meets-watering hole that has Miami hipsters swooning. Built inside an old warehouse, Wynwood has a sleek, minimalist look that provides a perfect backdrop for the art on display. An 11-foot-high sculpture of a rainbow-hued man greets guests upon entry, and murals by Shepard Fairey — better known for creating that iconic HOPE poster featuring Barack Obama — adorn the walls. Ilana Kohn clothing

With a passion for design and a love for sewing, I’ve been creating clothing for myself and friends as far back as I can remember. I really relished the thought of being able to share my creations with a wider audience and take my passion to the next level. That said, this Summer marks the debut of my first collection for my clothing line, Ilana Kohn. Read more

Despite his name, I’m guessing German illustrator Frederik Jurk must be a cool guy because his images, his limited palette and gorgeous textured line work are awesome.

Zach Paul

I was immediately taken with the work of California artist Zack Paul. Especially the images created on various bits of driftwood and found natural objects. The most perfect backdrop to his clean, geometric images.

Whoever designed this Afro-themed cookie packaging, take a bow. And make it a long one. Let’s hope the cookie tastes as fine as the plastic it comes in.

Seldom has black humour been done so well. On the surface, this film about the everyday lives of some unusually mundane characters, sounds extraordinarily boring. But it is instead a cutting comment on the absurdity and drudgery of everyday life. The characters try to break out or change their lives without success, and the results are bleak and hilarious. Belgian architect Vincent Callebaut is an award-winning designer with varied projects. This one, entitled The Lilypad, is nothing short of amazing. It’s an eco-city, floating on water, with the ability to accommodate upwards of 50,000 people. If built as designed, this structure (which uses most, if not all, available environmental technologies) would sustainably produce more power than it would consume.

The3some seeks collaborations with like-minded people and together, they strive to bust boredom. As you are reading this, the relentless battle continues.

Lyon-based Babylon Circus is music laced with ska, gypsy, rock, vaudevillian antics, dancehall and reggae. Their first Australian East Coast tour in 2008 saw the nine piece band sell every show out. They feature on the So Frenchy So Chic compilation. We asked them to tell us about their favourite music right now, and they started with Django Reinhardt’s Minor Swing [listen below]: ‘Backstage, home, in the bus, cooking or having breakfast, is there a time you wouldn’t love to hear this one? We love it anytime, any style, too, as it’s been remixed and rearranged so many different ways. Still, we love the original best’.
