Oh No Ono’s Secret Playlist
by Oh No Ono is a quintet from Aalborg, Denmark. The band, which was formed in 2003, release their new record, Eggs, early next year on Leaf and Friendly Fire Recordings. So we checked in with them to find out about the music that inspired the recording. Guitarist and vocalist Nis Svoldgard started with the White Noise song, Love Without Sound [listen below]: ‘A bizarre pop song. It seems to have been created in a time vacuum in a place that’s never existed. I can’t even begin to think of how extremely hard and time-consuming it must have been making music like this in the 60s. The amazing thing is how delicate and sensitive this actually sounds’.

The philosophy of a beginning is to me, a wonderful concept. I really enjoy flicking through the back catalogues of a musician and discovering their origin, then tracing their musical journey to the present. So for American-born, Paris-based sister duo CocoRosie, who released their third album The Adventure of Ghosthouse and Stillborn to much acclaim, making the trip to their beginnings is more than worth the journey: their debut album, Le Maison de Mon Reve (released back in 2004) was a gentle stroll through their pop and classical influences, which melt together seamlessly into a backdrop for their unique and enchanting voices.
Australia’s largest private museum will soon have some super futuristic and luxurious accommodations for guests. These awesome structures, designed by Nonda Katsilidis, definitely aim to reflect the art housed in the museum with their hyper modernist look.

Major Stars are another throwback ’70s rock band, playing Sabbath-flavored, guitar-driven psych tunes. But what sets them apart from the horde of Zeppelin-worshipping clones is vocalist Sandra Clarkson, whose voice is clean and feminine, but loud and aggressive — she doesn’t try to affect a Janis Joplin rasp. The band’s music also skews heavily towards the Acid Mothers Temple end of the ’70s revival thing rather than the Wolfmother side, another plus. Nope, rock still isn’t dead.

Pencils made from recycled newspaper
The problem with awesome things like these pencils made out of recycled newspaper is that you almost don’t want to use them.
In 2008, graphic designer Becky Edgington and illustrator Sarah Beetson created two limited-edition packs of playing cards featuring images from Beetson’s exhibition, 50 Bucks: Bring On The Sluts. The images were selected from almost 500 small artworks created on moleskine paper, inspired by vintage pornography and a trip to Japan. Read more
