Hotchocspoons

As soon as the weather turns cold, there are few things more satisfying than a proper cup of hot chocolate. Thanks then to the imaginative cats at the Chocolate Company and their brilliant Hotchocspoons. Put simply, Hotchocspoons consists of hot chocolate on a spoon that’s all ready to be dipped and swirled into a mug of steamy milk to make that perfect cuppa cocoa. The 45 plus flavors range from brownie walnut bourbon vanilla, to strawberry and pink pepper, to cocoa with whisky or amaretto. If you’re feeling uber adventurous, there is even a seaweed variety, too.

Guerrilla Ice Cream

Political awareness is not exactly your standard ice cream topping, but it’s what you’ll find when you line up at New York’s new Guerrilla Ice Cream street cart. This pioneering mobile project has paired gourmet frozen custards to political movements around the globe in an effort to temper the trendy with a little social responsibility. Flavours correspond uniquely to their chosen uprising and include such combos as the Velvet Revolution from the Czech Republic, a lemon poppy seed ice cream topped with spiced cookie crumbs and lemon zest. Wine in a beer bottle

If there was any doubt that beer is the new wine, it can now be put to rest with the introduction of this new wine packaging: wine in a beer bottle. That’s right, we’re talking about a Swartland Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend out of South Africa cheekily disguised within a kitschy brown beer bottle with an equally cheeky title, Bob’s Your Uncle. Clothing designer, artist and teacher, Howard Tangye gives us a cool look at models. The etched lines draw out a specific moment in time and the eyes seem to be sharing a conversation, listening to someone go on. You can almost predict what they are about to say, responding to you in a manor of compassion, yet keeping their guard up at the same time. Read more

With its long history in poster design and with a younger generation of artists who grew up with both Eastern and Western European influences, the ‘new Poland’ is booming. I had a blast when I visited Warsaw about a year ago and met all the movers and shakers in design. My friend just sent me a link to Tymek Jezierski’s amazing comic works. They’re so fresh! The only problem I have with them is that I don’t read Polish.

An anonymous public school teacher known as Mrs. Q, following Morgan Spurlock’s lead, decided to eat every school lunch served to her for the duration of 2010. At the risk of her job, she documents her experience on her blog, which features photographs of the atrocious, shrink-wrapped, processed poison that she and her students are forced to choke down every school day.

Setting Sun’s cover of Tom Petty’s You Got Lucky was recently released as part of Buffet Libre DJ’s compilation CD, Rewind 2. Says frontman, Gary Levitt, of their version on the song: ‘We got back from our European tour on Christmas Eve with a December 27th deadline for the track looming. It was finally started on December 26th and then sent off completed the next day. It was a great exercise in having to let some things go. That’s twenty-four hours out the door complete, old school style. That’s how records used to be made. Motown, baby, MOTOWN!’ We have the song for free download in our Music Download section [psst, it's in the third column of the site]
