Dr Who theme song: time travelling again

Back in the day, when my hair was longer and my waistline narrower, I played guitar in a few bands in Sydney, violating the eardrums of the unsuspecting with our noisy racket of guitar heavy chaos. One of the gigs we played regularly was an open mic night called Brackets & Jam, at which an assortment of musical acts – some good, some bad, some just plain indifferent (the audience, that is) — would showcase their musical chops to a full house of Chai sipping hippies seated cross-legged on a cold wooden floor.
Our performances invariably managed to clear the room, but there was always one band that would bring the crowd back in again — a three piece of gangly, disproportionate ilk, who never uttered a word on stage, but instead pounded out the most sublime instrumental guitar music I’d heard. Their show stopper was a note perfect cover of the Dr Who theme, with Theremin-styled guitar lines and bodies flaying about the stage like they were simultaneously being attacked by a legion of invading Adipose.

This website hosts a nice collection of quirky, sometimes mind-boggling, sculptures from around the world. There’s a certain Dali-esque feel to a lot of them – those surreal, dreamy hallucinations turned into a warped reality. I’ve always been a sucker for art that really catches you out for a few seconds, and these certainly do that.
The work of Australia‘s Ben Frost is always interesting. He’s known for his controversial art juxtapositions that confront contemporary Western paradigms in our advertising obsessed society. Crapitalism is on display until November 3 at Opus Gallery in Newcastle, UK. I do hope any disgruntled viewers refrain themselves from slashing his work with a knife, unlike the infamous 2000 Australian episode.
Oh boy, this is fun. Omaha’s Tilly and the Wall are kitsch-cool-camp-vauderville meets pop-folk-flamenco, with a tap dancer for a drummer and some serious, serious charisma for a calling card.
Drawing upon both the traditional and the classically abstract ideals of tie design, the Sovereign Beck line of neckwear was created in limited quantity: bias cut and hand stitched in New York City. There are just 75 pieces per design.
Have you ever felt engulfed by a strange mix of emotions, ones which make you feel all giddy? Well, that’s what this track — Not For All The Love In the World — does to me. French pop-folk extraordinaire Sebastian Tellier remixes Irish pop band The Thrills. Totally luscious and dreamy, especially the glockenspiel sound. Beautiful stuff.
