Another Dimension show riffs on The Twilight Zone
If you happen to find yourself in LA over the next few weeks, be sure to check out this amazing show at Gallery 1988, opening May 20. The show, aptly titled, Another Dimension, showcases 50 artists’ works based on the original Rod Serling TV masterpiece, The Twilight Zone. My piece, Like A Tiny Doll Cut From A Shell And Brought To Life, is based on the episode, Stopover In A Quiet Town, where a married couple wakes up in a dollhouse after a long night of partying, only to find they are captives, and new toys, for a giant alien little girl.
I love the finely rendered, graphic (yes, rendered and graphic) work of illustrator John Malloy. His charmingly quirky sensibility is the crowning element of his work.

After hearing a year’s worth of speculation that this film might not see the light of day, the new Dave Eggers [McSweeney's] and Spike Jonze adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s vividly imaginative story Where The Wild Things Are is finally hitting the big screen. And I can’t wait! The subtle use of CGI on the faces makes the creatures even more eerily believable. Read more
Dublab’s Into Infinity project
I was kindly invited by one of my longtime favorite radio stations, Dublab to create a piece for their upcoming open-source exhibition, Into Infinity and Beyond. During the online exhibition, other artists will be able to manipulate, remix, and re-submit the work. The exhibition will also feature music that will be available for remixing, as well.

The work of artist Matt Leines is a perfect mash up of folk, ethnic and outsider art. It’s smart, colorful, graphic eye candy. In fact, there’s not one piece on his site I wouldn’t sell my hypothetical soul for.
If animated wall drawings of severed heads and insect men ejecting their brains from their craniums is what people produce when they have too much time on their hands, then we should do their laundry for them and cook them dinner so they’ll have even more time on their hands.
There’s no place in the world like Cuba’s colourful and crumbling capital. Riddled with contradictions, it’s a foodie’s worst nightmare and a photographer’s paradise. People really do dance in the streets, drive 1950s Chevvies, and smoke big, fat cigars. However, it’s all set to change. In December last year, while Cuba celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of its revolution, President Obama said he’d soften America’s trade embargo, and Raul Castro said that he’s ‘ready for talks’ with the new American government. While this could mean long-overdue relief for Cubans, it could also leave one less truly fascinating place on the globe to visit. So go. Now.
This is a simple blog featuring photos of Charlie, a coyote who lives with a person and some other animals. There are a lot of cute animal photoblogs out there, but this one is more concerned with motion, elegance, outdoor scenery, and frequent use of Old West-y sepia tones that highlight Charlie’s amazing fur texture. The song Blasphemous Rumours by Depeche Mode is just about the most dark, beautiful thing I’ve ever heard. There’s something very compelling about it all: it’s gloomy and depressing during the verses, but then this sexy, almost hypnotically melodic chorus bursts in out of nowhere. The song came out in 1984 and is reputedly based on a true story, with singer Dave Gahan concluding at the end of it all: ‘I don’t want to start any blasphemous rumours but I think that God’s got a sick sense of humour, and when I die, I expect to find Him laughing’. Brilliant.
