Sizzling Stone at Miami’s Stone Grill 95

Move over fondue, there’s a new star at the table: a sizzling, hot lava rock. That’s right. At Stone Grill 95 in Miami, while diners lounge on red leather benches, waiters carry blistering lava on massive wooden boards to each table.

Then, daring patrons take whatever meat they fancy — from lamb to filet mignon — and toss it on the stone until it cracks and smokes, grilling to perfection. In addition to these charred delights, the new concept boutique restaurant also serves an impressive list of global fusion dishes to an increasingly enthusiastic Miami following. Now that’s hot.

New York City: a tribute

U2 recorded a song called New York on their All That You Can’t Leave Behind LP, and another one after 9/11. I recorded my own tribute, We Rock for NY, in 2008. The city built on industry, money, power, wealth inequality, artistry, can be seen as a microcosm of the world. New York today is a completely different city than 40 years ago, with a new mix of people. Read more

Art gallery meets bistro at Miami’s Wynwood Kitchen & Bar

Miami’s up-and-coming arts district got a little bit cooler last year with the opening of Wynwood Kitchen & Bar, an art gallery-meets-bistro-meets-watering hole that has Miami hipsters swooning. Built inside an old warehouse, Wynwood has a sleek, minimalist look that provides a perfect backdrop for the art on display. An 11-foot-high sculpture of a rainbow-hued man greets guests upon entry, and murals by Shepard Fairey — better known for creating that iconic HOPE poster featuring Barack Obama — adorn the walls. Star Wars Uncut: a fully crowdsourced version of Episode IV

The project of creative technologist, Casey Pugh, this full length version of the George Lucas masterpiece was created from multiple 15 second segments recreated from the original movie and submitted by thousands of Star Wars fans, which were then spliced together by editor Aaron Valdez to form the final product. Genius, as both a commentary on contemporary pop culture trends (there are references to LEGO, stop motion, memes and the like) and on the power of tapping your audience for quality material.

Filmmaker creates LEGO stop motion to propose to girlfriend

Now, this is one for the ages: back in 2010, Atlanta film-maker Walter Thompson created a jaw-dropping LEGO stop motion to propose to Nealey Dozier, his girlfriend of four years. The video took 22 hours of shooting and some 2,600 pictures to splice together, a small sacrifice to pay for years of happiness together. Right? Right! Oh, and she said yes. Bonus.

I had dinner at the new Stone Grill 95 restaurant after reading an enticing article that highlighted this fresh spot. The boutique restaurant is delightful I felt like I was in Europe, the food was fresh and scrumptious not like those american over gorged plates and not only did I feel special after meeting Chef Punchy but I knew right there and then that the food was prepared with love. The staff was on top of their game and Linda the owner was like the true Italian perfection of a woman making sure through out my dinner that my glass was never empty and that every thing was to my liking. If you are looking for a hot spot, great food, effective service and great pricing….Stone Grill is the place so thank you for the experience.

Most people think of the countryside and rural life as peaceful to the point of being profoundly boring. Kate Kirkwood’s photographs captures a less idyllic beauty where life and death intersect in a controlled chaos that is agriculture. Each of Kirkwood’s images have a mythic quality to them — cows and sheep blur past her lens like nymphs or lurk on the horizon like demons and gods. Read more

This is an amazing international contemporary art website. It’s kinda like a long list of images and videos that’s updated daily.

Hailing from upstate New York, Phantogram were signed by the uber-hip Ghostly label on the recommendation of School of Seven Bells. Hardly surprising given Phantogram’s dark, beats-and-samples pop sound.
