Most cultural products are handled within a cyclic structure, so when they reach their highest point of growth, they start to go down and come back to the beginning. Thus a new period starts. Fashion is also attached to these parameters, not only by the revival of vintage, but also by the materials used in the designs. So we find these cardboard cradles, a return to basic and abandoned materials, which can be customized according to our taste.

The traditional game of Rock, Paper, Scissors is generally considered to be a children’s activity, but some adults use it to solve their differences. And, get this, it’s also now a ‘sport‘ controlled by an international association with tournaments played in many countries. The highest authority is the World Rock Paper Scissors Society located in Toronto, Canada, which regulates and promotes the sport and organizes conferences, an annual retreat, and monthly tournaments in clubs and institutions. Walton Ford’s huge, intricate watercolors and prints inspired by John James Audubon’s Ornithological Biography, Vietnamese folk tales, and Benjamin Franklin’s letters boggle the mind with their scale and detail. Ford depicts very subtly anthropomorphic animals that hint at parables, jokes, and metaphors. Read more
If only we could swap out every ubiquitous North Face jacket that sits tight on the weather-beaten frames of far too many Manhattanites for one of these wonderful creations by Japanese artist, Kosuke Tsumura. The city would be that much more of an interesting place. Called Final Home, this parka has 44 zippered pockets and is part of Tsumura’s collection of ‘post-apocalyptic streetwear’, designed as a respite — and insulation — from the stresses of modern urban living.
Knuckleheads is a pretty fun little side scrolling game where you’re a pair of Mexican-wrestler-looking things attached to each other by a chain. You swing each other around to move and hit floaty capsule things for points, and you can change the length of the chain to get over various obstacles, but watch out for the bats.

I got to check out Extra Golden the other night at the Floristree in the H & H Building in downtown Baltimore. Despite a bill of heady, contemplative, experimental music that preceded the DC-based band, the crowd was chomping at the bit to see them when they finally hit the stage well past 1am. It’s still cold and rainy here in Charm City, but these guys made it feel like summer with their sunny blend of Kenyan benga music and guitar-driven psych rock.
