Brooklyn’s Hot Bread Kitchen
The smell of fresh bread baking is one of the many enticing aromas that flood the streets of New York. Within the city there is a thriving baking tradition, which one Brooklyn-based bakery — Hot Bread Kitchen — is taking to the next level. Hot Bread Kitchen is an exceptional bakery that boasts gorgeous regional specialty breads, like fresh corn tortillas and noteworthy lavish chips. But it is also so much more than its beautiful breads.
Hot Bread Kitchen is a non-profit organization that honors the culinary experience of immigrant women, creating professional experience for them in their bakery, while providing entrepreneurial and job skills. The immigrant women here are those behind the unique and traditional products this small bakery boasts. Together, they also work to bring bakers and bread makers that are committed to preserving bread making traditions at the same table — literally. This, along with their use of local and organic ingredients, has raised Hot Bread Kitchen, like yeast, to celebrity-status in New York’s baking industry.

Sparks’ album Kimono My House is a demented mix of hard rock, pop, glam, new wave, and baroque pop. Why this record never caught on in the States I’ll never know. The songs will get stuck in your head and prevent you from sleeping. Oh yeah, and the keyboard player has a nice mustache too, as evidenced by this track above — This Town Ain’t Big Enough.
I interviewed the mysterious Suitman some time ago for the Australian magazine, Riot. Given the amount of talent he has, it’s a mystery why German producer Pantha Du Prince not received more attention than he has.
