San Franciscans are not normally timid when it comes to food. Good thing then that Humphry Slocombe’s ice cream parlor has made its home in this foodie town. Here, revelatory ice cream is served in an overwhelming, adventurous, unexpected list of flavors.
Forget simple vanilla and strawberry, and experiment with such sensations as balsamic caramel, ancho chocolate, and green-tea-black sesame. And if you’re feeling really inspired, try their fume (smoked) variety, foie gras, hibiscus beet, or better yet, government cheese. Word on the street is they even had a truffle ice cream happening. Take any of these and ask for it between a cookie for a fantastical ice cream sandwich. But if you’re feeling dizzy from all the possibilities, don’t fret — Humphry Slocombe only offers about ten to twelve flavors each day, updated daily on Twitter, of course.

Chinese born Don Hong-Oai spent most of his life in Saigon, where he apprenticed with a photography studio. He stayed in Vietnam through the war, before fleeing by boat to California in the late 1970s. While living in San Francisco, he went back to China every few years to create new negatives. Large scale mural by Hugh Leeman for Art Basel Miami
This is my new 8′ x 20′ hand painted mural in Miami, Florida, for Art Basel week. The mural is of Tracy and Raymond. Both are friends of mine from San Francisco. Raymond stopped by my studio to chat the other day as I was finishing up his portrait, on the right. He had cut his hair and shaved most of his beard, but was really excited to see his likeness so large. I told him it was to be part of a large mural installed in Miami. He said: ‘That’s great. Years ago I was in the slammer there’.

A culmination of nearly four years of writing and recording, Omaha quintet, The Faint are preparing to release their fifth album, Fasciinatiion, on August 5 on the band’s own newly-formed label, blank.wav. Working without any time constraints, the songs went through many recorded incarnations before finding their final forms. The result is the best album in the band’s career, a record that is the purest culmination of The Faint’s brilliant musical instincts, ideas and aesthetic, with each member contributing equally to its creation.

Baltimore Mural by Josh Van Horne
My friend Josh Van Horne, a local Baltimore artist, did this amazing mural in our neighborhood that depicts the history of this warehouse-laden area.
This Powder Necklace features a pearlized Turbo Cinereus shell with tiny holes drilled into the bottom, filled with a sparkling silver-colored powder that when gently tapped, sprinkles a light dusting on the wearer’s chest. Designed by Stephanie Simek. Read more
